Key Information

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Alture Treks will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in the city. After check-in, you can relax or take a short walk in the vibrant streets of Thamel. In the evening, you'll attend a pre-trek briefing where your guide will go over the itinerary, safety protocols, and trekking gear checklist to prepare you for the journey ahead.

After breakfast, Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of your trek. The road winds through hills, terraced farmland, and deep river valleys, offering picturesque views of rural Nepal. The journey, though long, is filled with changing landscapes and glimpses of Himalayan peaks in the distance. Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, check into a teahouse and rest for the evening.

Your trek begins today with a pleasant walk along the Bhote Koshi River, gradually ascending through forests of oak, maple, and rhododendron. You’ll pass small settlements like Bamboo and Rimche along the way, encountering playful langurs and listening to the sounds of nature. The final climb takes you to Lama Hotel, a small village nestled in the forest, where you’ll spend the night in a cozy teahouse.

After breakfast, continue the trek following the Langtang Khola upstream. The trail gradually opens up, revealing dramatic views of Langtang Lirung and other surrounding peaks. Along the way, you'll pass through Ghodatabela and other small settlements as you approach the traditional Langtang Village, home to the Tamang people. This area was heavily affected by the 2015 earthquake and has since been rebuilt with resilience and spirit. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Today’s trek is shorter and more relaxed, allowing for better acclimatization as you gain altitude. The trail continues through yak pastures and stone-built villages with increasing views of snow-capped peaks. You’ll arrive at Kyanjin Gompa, a picturesque village and the spiritual heart of the region, home to an ancient Buddhist monastery. After lunch, explore the area or visit the nearby cheese factory. Overnight in Kyanjin.

Today is the highlight of the trek: an early morning hike to Tserko Ri, the highest point of the journey. The steep climb rewards you with spectacular panoramic views of the Langtang Himalayas, including Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Yala Peak. After taking in the stunning scenery and sunrise (if starting early), descend back to Kyanjin Gompa for a well-deserved rest. Overnight in Kyanjin.

After breakfast, begin your return journey, retracing your steps back down the valley. With most of the trail going downhill, today’s walk is easier and allows more time to enjoy the scenery. You’ll pass through Langtang Village and other familiar spots before reaching Lama Hotel for the night.

Continue descending through the lush forest trail, retracing your route back to Syabrubesi. The path passes rivers, bamboo groves, and small teahouses, providing a final opportunity to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Langtang region. On arrival in Syabrubesi, you can relax and reflect on your successful trek. Overnight in a local teahouse.

After an early breakfast, board the vehicle for the return drive to Kathmandu. The scenic route offers one last look at the Himalayan foothills and rural villages before arriving in the capital. Once back in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and enjoy your final evening. You might wish to shop for souvenirs or join a farewell dinner hosted by Alture Treks.

Your journey through the Langtang Valley concludes today. After breakfast, a representative from Alture Treks will transfer you to the airport for your flight home. Depart with lasting memories of majestic mountains, warm hospitality, and cultural richness. Thank you for trekking with Alture Treks, and we hope to see you again for your next Himalayan adventure!

Getting to the starting point of the Langtang Valley Trek is a scenic yet slightly adventurous journey that begins in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital city. Alture Treks arranges all logistics to ensure a smooth start to your trek.

Step 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Your journey starts with your international flight arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. A representative from Alture Treks will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The first day is typically used for rest, briefing, and preparation.

Step 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
The next morning, you’ll embark on a 7–8 hour drive (approx. 122 km) north to the village of Syabrubesi (1,550m), the starting point of the trek.
  • The drive winds through beautiful Himalayan foothills, terraced fields, and riverside roads.
  • The route passes through Trishuli, Dhunche, and finally reaches Syabrubesi, near the Tibetan border.
  • Alture Treks offers travel in comfortable tourist vehicles or private jeeps, depending on group size and preference.
  • Although the road is bumpy and partially unpaved in sections, the views and experience make it worthwhile.
Permit Requirements
Before entering the Langtang region, trekkers must have:

  • TIMS card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
  • Langtang National Park Entry Permit

Alture Treks will organize these in advance and include the permit process in your itinerary briefing on Day 1.
Elevation Chart
Langtang Valley Trek is known for its network of teahouse accommodations—cozy, locally run lodges that offer food, lodging, and a glimpse into local Tamang culture.

Accommodation
Lodges along the route are simple but comfortable.
  • Most rooms are twin-share with basic bedding (bed, mattress, pillow, blanket).
  • Bathrooms are mostly shared; some places have Western-style toilets, while others may be squat toilets.
  • Hot showers are usually available for an extra cost (NPR 200–500).
  • As you climb higher, facilities become more basic but remain clean and hospitable.
Alture Treks ensures your accommodation is pre-booked during peak trekking seasons to avoid last-minute hassles, especially in places like Kyanjin Gompa, where availability can be limited.

Food
One of the charms of teahouse trekking is the home-cooked meals made by the lodge owners. The food is fresh, filling, and suited for trekking energy needs.

Common Menu Items:
  • Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables): A traditional Nepali staple offering unlimited refills
  • Momos (Tibetan dumplings)
  • Noodles, pasta, fried rice, and pancakes
  • Porridge, toast, eggs for breakfast
  • Tea, coffee, ginger lemon honey, hot chocolate for drinks
In higher altitudes like Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa, you can even try locally made yak cheese and fresh bread from the Kyanjin cheese factory.

Water & Hygiene
  • Bottled water is available (more expensive at higher altitudes), but it’s better to carry a reusable bottle and use water purification tablets or filters.
  • Safe drinking water is provided at lodges for a small fee.
Important Tips:
  • Vegetarian meals are widely available and recommended at altitude to aid digestion.
  • Avoid meat and alcohol above Syabrubesi, as refrigeration is limited.
  • Bring snacks like energy bars or trail mix for long hiking days.
Alture Treks ensures your comfort by selecting reliable teahouses, prioritizing hygiene, friendly service, and scenic locations. Meals are part of the trekking package, making your adventure stress-free and immersive in local hospitality.
The Langtang Valley Trek is generally classified as a moderate trek, suitable for beginner to intermediate trekkers with basic fitness. It doesn’t require technical climbing skills, but it does involve long walking days, gradual altitude gain, and varied terrain.

Terrain & Trail Conditions:
  • The trail passes through forests, rocky hillsides, suspension bridges, and remote villages.
  • While the trails are well-defined, there are steep ascents and descents, especially when approaching Langtang Village and Tserko Ri (5,000m).
  • Trail conditions may vary depending on the season — spring and autumn are best for clear, dry trails.
Altitude Challenges:
  • The trek begins at 1,550m (Syabrubesi) and ascends to 3,870m (Kyanjin Gompa), with a summit hike to Tserko Ri (5,000m).
  • Altitude sickness can be a concern if acclimatization is rushed. Fortunately, the Langtang itinerary by Alture Treks is designed to allow for steady altitude gain and proper rest days.
  • Most trekkers feel mild effects of altitude above 3,000m—fatigue, headaches, or dizziness. Hydration and pacing are key.
Daily Walking Hours:
  • Expect 5 to 8 hours of walking per day, with the longest day being the Tserko Ri hike (8–9 hours round trip).
  • Although no climbing equipment is required, good balance and stamina are essential.
Summary:
If you can comfortably walk 12–15 km per day with a backpack and handle stair climbing or hill walking at home, you're likely ready for this trek. It’s a great choice for first-time Himalayan trekkers.

The Langtang Valley Trek experiences a classic Himalayan mountain climate with distinct seasonal variations that significantly affect trekking conditions and views. Understanding the weather and choosing the right season is key to a successful and enjoyable trek.

Autumn (September to November) — The Best Season

  • Autumn is widely considered the best time to trek Langtang Valley.
  • The weather is generally stable and dry after the monsoon season, with clear skies and excellent visibility of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
  • Daytime temperatures are comfortably cool, ranging between 15°C to 20°C at lower elevations, cooling further as you ascend. Nights are crisp but manageable with proper gear.
  • Trekkers enjoy the spectacular views of snow-capped mountains such as Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal.
  • Popular trekking season means lodges can be busy; pre-booking through Alture Treks is advised.

Spring (March to May) — Another Great Choice

  • Spring brings warming temperatures and the valley blooms with colorful rhododendrons and other alpine flowers, making the landscape stunning.
  • The weather is moderately dry, although occasional showers can occur.
  • Temperatures begin to rise, making trekking comfortable without the summer heat of the lower regions.
  • The air is clear, offering good mountain views and pleasant trekking conditions.

Winter (December to February) — Cold and Quiet

  • Winters are cold with temperatures often dropping below freezing at night and snow possible at higher elevations.
  • Trails can be icy or snowy, making trekking more challenging and requiring extra gear and experience.
  • Many teahouses close, and services are limited, but those who want solitude and snowy vistas may find this season rewarding.

Monsoon (June to August) — Not Recommended

  • The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, landslides, and slippery trails.
  • This season poses safety risks and can limit visibility and views.
  • Many trekking services reduce operations or close entirely during this period.
  • Airport transfers in Kathmandu
  • All ground transportation as per itinerary
  • Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu
  • Teahouse accommodations during the trek.
  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) during the trek.
  • Welcome and farewell dinners in Kathmandu.
  • Langtang National Park permit & TIMS Card
  • Experienced, English-speaking trek guide.
  • Porter(s) to carry luggage (1 per 2 trekkers).
  • Trekking map and group medical kit.
  • International flights to/from Kathmandu.
  • Personal Expenses (Snacks, Drinks, etc.)
  • Travel Insurance
  • Nepal entry visa fee.
  • Personal Trekking Gear
  • Tips for Guides and Porters
Proper fitness preparation not only makes the trek more enjoyable but also helps minimize the risk of injury and altitude-related issues.

1. Cardiovascular Training (Start 6–8 Weeks Before Trek)

You’ll need good heart and lung endurance to handle high-altitude trekking. Focus on:

  • Hiking with a daypack (4–5 hrs on varied terrain weekly)
  • Jogging, brisk walking, swimming, or cycling (3–5 times per week)
  • Stair climbing with a weighted backpack mimics trail conditions best
2. Strength & Endurance Training
You’ll be carrying a daypack (5–7 kg), and your legs need to be strong.
  • Lower body workouts: Squats, lunges, step-ups, calf raises
  • Core strength: Planks, crunches, leg lifts (for stability and posture)
  • Upper body: Light strength work for shoulders and back helps with pack-carrying
3. Flexibility & Balance
Improved flexibility can help reduce injury risk:
  • Stretching routines or yoga (2–3 times per week) are helpful
  • Balance drills with a stability ball or one-leg stands can improve trail coordination
4. Altitude Acclimatization (If Possible)
If you're near mountains, hike at higher altitudes on weekends.
Otherwise, simulate effort with stair climbs, or use high-altitude gyms if available.

5. Mental Preparation
Long hours of trekking and limited luxuries demand patience, focus, and a positive attitude. Mindfulness or meditation can help boost mental stamina.

Pro Tip from Alture Treks:
Arrive in Kathmandu a day or two early if possible, especially if coming from sea level, to allow your body time to adjust before beginning the ascent.
