Getting to the starting point of the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is straightforward with Alture Treks arranging all transport logistics. Most trekkers begin their journey by flying or driving into Kathmandu, Nepal’s bustling capital city. From Kathmandu, a scenic 6-7 hour drive along the Prithvi Highway takes you to Pokhara, a serene lakeside city that serves as the gateway to many Himalayan treks. Pokhara itself is well connected by domestic flights and tourist buses.

During the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, accommodation is mainly provided in teahouses—simple lodges run by local families along the trekking route. These teahouses offer basic yet comfortable rooms with shared or private bathrooms. Alture Treks ensures that you stay in the best available lodges, which often have warm beds, blankets, and sometimes even Wi-Fi and charging facilities. While the facilities are modest compared to city hotels, they are perfect for refreshing after a day on the trail.

Food on the trek is a mix of local Nepali dishes and popular international items. Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables) is the staple and provides the necessary energy for trekking. You will also find soups, noodles, momos (Nepali dumplings), and simple Western options like pasta and omelets. Alture Treks emphasizes healthy, nutritious meals to keep you fueled, and can accommodate dietary preferences and restrictions if informed beforehand.
The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is considered moderate in difficulty. The trek is suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness and experience, as well as for seasoned trekkers looking for a short, rewarding adventure. The main challenge comes from the steady ascent, particularly the long staircase climb at Ulleri village, which can be physically demanding but is manageable with proper pacing and breaks.

Alture Treks recommends taking your time to acclimatize and listen to your body to prevent altitude sickness, though the trek’s maximum elevation of around 3,210 meters (Poon Hill) is relatively low compared to other Himalayan routes. The daily trekking duration ranges from 4 to 6 hours, making it comfortable for most trekkers without requiring extreme endurance.

The best times to trek Ghorepani Poon Hill are during the pre-monsoon (spring) from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) from September to November. During these seasons, the weather is clear and mild, offering the best mountain views and pleasant trekking conditions. Spring is especially beautiful with rhododendrons in full bloom, while autumn offers crisp air and stable weather.

Winter trekking (December to February) is possible but colder, especially at higher altitudes, and some teahouses may be closed. The monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall, making the trails slippery and muddy, which is generally not recommended. Alture Treks monitors weather forecasts closely and advises trekkers on the best time to embark on the trek to ensure safety and maximum enjoyment.

Preparing physically before the trek significantly enhances your experience on the Ghorepani Poon Hill trail. Alture Treks advises all clients to engage in cardiovascular exercises like jogging, cycling, or swimming for at least 4-6 weeks prior to departure. This builds stamina and improves lung capacity, which is crucial for trekking at moderate altitudes.

Strength training focusing on legs, core, and back muscles also helps with the uphill climbs and carrying a daypack. Hiking practice on local trails, especially involving stair climbing or uneven terrain, is highly beneficial. Mental preparation and gradual acclimatization during the trek are equally important. Alture Treks provides fitness guidelines and support to ensure every trekker is ready for the adventure ahead.

The highlight is the early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), where you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. This trek is ideal for beginners, families, or anyone with limited time who still wants an authentic Himalayan trekking experience.

This trek is considered easy to moderate, making it one of the most accessible Himalayan treks. The daily walking ranges between 4 to 6 hours, with some steep stair sections—especially from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri. There’s no risk of high-altitude sickness as the highest point, Poon Hill, is just over 3,200 meters. With a good level of basic fitness, anyone from children to seniors can complete the trek comfortably. Alture Treks paces the journey to ensure comfort and enjoyment for all age groups and experience levels.

The best seasons for this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These periods offer clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and excellent views of the snow-capped peaks. Spring is particularly beautiful, with rhododendrons in full bloom, while autumn provides the clearest mountain vistas. While winter treks are also possible—with fewer crowds and snow-dusted scenery—trekkers should be prepared for colder temperatures, especially in the mornings and evenings.

During the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Alture Treks arranges accommodation in locally run teahouses along the route. These are simple, clean, and cozy lodges that offer twin-sharing rooms and basic amenities. Bathrooms are typically shared, and warm meals are served in the dining area. Our all-inclusive package covers airport transfers, hotel stays in Kathmandu and Pokhara, all ground transportation (by private vehicle or tourist bus), meals during the trek (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), a licensed English-speaking guide, a porter for every two trekkers, and all necessary permits such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS card. We also provide a pre-trek briefing, first-aid support, and 24/7 assistance throughout the journey to ensure a smooth and safe adventure.

Yes, trekkers are required to carry an ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. Alture Treks takes care of obtaining these permits on your behalf before the trek begins, so you won’t need to worry about the paperwork.

No, altitude sickness is generally not a concern on the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. The highest point, Poon Hill, is at 3,210 meters—well below the altitude where most people begin experiencing symptoms. The gradual ascent and relatively short duration also reduce the risk. That said, Alture Treks guides are trained to monitor health conditions and are equipped with basic first-aid kits and safety protocols.

Since this is a low-altitude trek, you won’t need heavy mountaineering gear. Essentials include comfortable hiking boots, layered clothing, a warm jacket (especially for early mornings), rain protection, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a daypack. Alture Treks provides a detailed packing checklist upon booking, and we can assist with gear rentals in Kathmandu if needed. Keep in mind, you’ll want to pack light—porters will carry your duffel bag (up to 10-12kg), while you carry your personal daypack.
